The New York Private Equity Network (NYPEN) and the Gerson Lehrman Group (GLG) are pleased to invite you to attend a seminar on "What to look for in a Great CEO and the Future of Private Equity in the Financial Crisis"

Presented By: Professor Steven N. Kaplan, University of Chicago Booth School of Business

This session will cover two topics based on Professor Kaplan’s research.

• First, Professor Kaplan will share his research on the traits that make a great Private Equity CEO. The CEO plays an outsized roll in creating value and driving returns. Yet PE firms often have difficulty with their management teams and many firms replace the CEOs at over half their portfolio companies. While hundreds of anecdotal books have been written on the CEO role, Professor Kaplan produced the first academically researched analysis on the subject. Based on a proprietary database of over 300 CEO interviews, Professor Kaplan has isolated the key traits that produce results. In this session, you will learn what traits to look for as you evaluate your CEOs and interview for the position.
• Second, Professor Kaplan will provide a view on the state of the Private Equity industry in 2008. How will the financial crisis impact the Private Equity model? What is the outlook for returns for Vintage 2006, 2007, and 2008? Based on over 20 years of studying the Private Equity industry, Professor Kaplan will provide a perspective on these questions and more.

Drinks and hors d’oeuvres will be served.
