The New York Private Equity Network (NYPEN) and Ernst & Young LLP are kicking off 2009 with its next educational session, "Accounting Issues Resulting from the Current Economic Environment" which will be held on Tuesday, January 27, 2008.  This session will continue the series of accounting and tax sessions aimed at functioning in a stressed/distressed economic environment.  The discussions will be led by Peter Hornecker, a Partner within Ernst & Young's On-Call practice.  The On-Call practice provides technical accounting and other advice to Ernst & Young's investment banking and private equity clients on complex accounting issues.
Session Overview:
The session will discuss the impact of the credit crisis on the current economic environment from an accounting and business perspective.  The session will cover key accounting issues that have the potential of impacting portfolio companies of all sizes this audit season and that will likely be key considerations in any new deals that arise over the next year.
What You Can Expect to Learn: - Discussion of various key accounting issues arising in a stressed/distressed environment including:         - Impairment issues         - Going concern considerations         - Impact on receivables and inventory         - Troubled debt considerations         - Disposals to generate or save cash flow         - Impact on pension and OPEB plans         - Effectiveness and non performance of hedging and derivatives - Impact of recent accounting pronouncements on M&A modeling (SFAS 141R and SFAS 160) - Overview of accounting for businesses operating under bankruptcy
